Is DermaPen the Same as MicroNeedling?
This month we’re doing a second round of “Patient Questions” and the focus this time is on one of our Stem Cell Aesthetic procedures, Aminocyte Glo™.
The procedure combines our advanced NextGenPRP treatment, which is an A-cellular injection containing growth factors, scaffolding, and fillers; with microneedling procedures to combat the signs of aging and leave you with firm, glowing skin.
Our patient Abigail wanted to know what the difference between DermaPen and MicroNeedling was before getting her treatment so she would be able to understand what was going to happen during the first of her 3 treatments.
Let’s Learn About MicroNeedling!
Did You Know: Microneedling has been around a lot longer than the DermaPen.
So What is MicroNeedling?
It’s simply a term used to describe the overall treatment, which is basically putting small puncture wounds all over the surface of the patient’s face. As the mico-wounds heal, they stimulate your skin to increase collagen production, which helps to improve the visibility of scars and aging.
In our case, those small puncture wounds we create not only help your skin to regenerate, but also provide us with a surface to apply our Aminocyte Glo™ treatment directly into the skin.
Then What is the Tool Called?
Traditional microneedling tools are called microneedling rollers or dermal rollers. A standard tool is basically a wheel covered in microneedles that is attached to a handle so it can easily be rolled on the skin.
The problem with a lot of these tools is that they can sometimes tear or damage the skin, they’re hard to get into smaller areas like around the eyes, nose, and mouth and they can be harder to completely sterilize.
So, What is a DermaPen?!
DermaPen is a brand name for a better microneedling tool. Instead of the traditional rotary tool, a DermaPen is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a small, handheld device that addresses all the limitations of a standard derma roller.
- It’s easy to sterilize
- It’s fitted with surgical grade disposable needles for patient’s safety
- It offers adjustable depth so the treatment isn’t too deep in sensitive areas
- It fits easily in hard to reach areas
Basically it’s just a better microneedling tool. It gives patients better results with less discomfort than any other tool we’ve tried.
To answer Abigail’s question; Is DermaPen the same as MicroNeedling; the answer is no. One is the procedure she’s getting and the other is the tool we’re using to do it for her.
